A special note to physicians:  MedCenter Rehab (MCR), formerly Medical Center Physical Therapy, has provided the highest quality Physical Therapy (PT) services to San Antonio and outlying areas since 1990.  Started by Richard (Ric) A. Evans, PT, DPT, OCS, CEAS, MCR are laser focused and dedicated to our number one priority of meeting the needs of your referred patients.  Second, our focus is to also meet the needs of you, the referring physician.  Please do not hesitate to call us anytime to discuss any special preferences you may have regarding your patient.  Furthermore, if there is anything we can do to improve our services to you, your office, and staff, please let us know.  We are here to serve.  As a Doctoral level Physical Therapist, we still acknowledge we work directly for you and maintaining that relationship is important to us each and every day.  To assure the best plan of care is being provided within your constraints we are mindful and respectful of you unique position as the patient’s primary physician and first advocate.  If we have questions, concerns, or any key  recommendations, we will contact you or your staff directly and always on behalf of your patient.  We will make every attempt to keep you fully informed of our rehab process as you may require and we will always update you on your patient's progress, or lack thereof.  We are equally dedicated to determining if PT is the most appropriate treatment for you patient.  Lastly, we are fortunate to have the services of a medical doctor on staff who serves as out Director and has his own practice as an Acupuncturist and pain specialist.  Dr. Joeming Dunn serves us in the capacity of overseeing our work injury patients functioning as the treating doctor of record for many occupational and personal injuries.  He is renowned for accepting difficult work injury cases that have floundered in the work comp system.   Along with our complimenting services our synergy has had paramount success in “rescuing” challenging work injury cases to include transforming the outcome.

Worker's Compensation: At the top of our list of specialties is Work Injury treatment and management, both at the State and Federal level.  We have over three decades of experience with proven outcome success with difficult or stagnate cases which frequently languish within the Worker's Comp (WC) Systems.  Our team approach focuses on keeping the inherently slow process of moving cases in and through the system towards successful resolution benefiting the patient, Carriers, and providers.  The ultimate goal inherent in WC has always been return-to-work; however, key to this process is obtaining authorization for appropriate medical care within the system's guidebook the Official Disability Guidelines (ODG).  Accomplishing this is a unique challenge not only in the WC population, but also the WC systems as they currently exists.  Our experienced team of specialists has a proven track record of rescuing such cases by establishing effective navigation through the WC quagmire.  If appropriate and necessary, and provided you concur, we can even accept the responsibilities associated with being the treating doctor of record.  Along  with our case management capabilities and hand picked team of specialists, this will allow us to facilitate movement of the case through the unique challenges inherent with work injuries and a very challenging administrative system.  This process unfortunately often requires a committed team of individuals especially experienced towards attaining successful and optimal outcomes within this sector of medicine.

Orthopedic populations: whether for pre or post-surgical Physical Therapy, we evaluate and treat a very wide variety of patients with musculoskeletal disorders.  We are Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics, specialization in the optimal recovery following injury or surgery.  We can also assist in providing programs to allow preventing or postponing surgery if appropriate.  We can handle most anything in this arena of rehabilitation with over 40 years of experienced success in over 90% of our cases.

Geriatric populations: from degenerative disorders to post-operative care to fall risk assessment and treatment, we love our senior citizens!  We provide valid, viable, and valuable care for this important sector of the medical population.  This includes patients who have gradually developed immobility challenges, pain, lack of independence, or presented with common safety issues in accompanying the aging process.  No pain IS gain is our motto and seniors are thankful for this!  We get them going and assist them to get back to their fullest, independent, safest lifestyle in a warm, supportive, empathetic environment.

Chronic Pain populations: our clinical staff is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to difficult, challenging, or polytrauma cases that can require more than just physical rehab.  Medical oversite, acupuncture, and behavioral/psychological evaluation and treatment is a often a key to facilitating successful and optimal rehab outcomes.  Whether the ultimate goal is independence with a decreased reliance on the medical system or developing the capacity to work part-time, our programs have proven very successful with a high-degree of patient satisfaction.

Disabled populations/Disability Paperwork:  We evaluate and complete most all disability paperwork based on the patient’s needs.  Enlisting our experienced evaluation and testing processes, we provide accurate and reliable assessments for the claimant.  This is a common area many doctors prefer to refer out for us to complete.

Personal Injury: A more recent specialty we have added is evaluating and treating personal injury cases that incorporate attorney involvement.  We feel these patients require high quality care just like everyone else and should not have to compromise quality care for mediocre results.  Most cases have a history of traumatic injury and are frequently associated with multiple injuries and diagnoses (Polytrauma) presenting unique challenges.  the lack of a highly specialized team providing state of the art care is too often the missing ingredient to success and optimal recovery for this population.  Inherent in these cases are are avoiding less optimal treatment alternatives where letters of protection and a delayed payment process can are realistic concerns and can become barriers to optimal outcomes.  It requires communication to all involved parties and coordinating appropriate care while managing the financial aspects, which weigh on every case, while appropriately assuring accurate reporting and documentation for adjudicated outcomes are the keys to our successful involvement.
